DEVELOPER / THE EVERYDAY TOOLKIT
CSV to JSON.
Turn CSV rows into JSON, including quoted and multiline fields. This is a free utility from my portfolio toolkit, with local browser processing and no account required.
Supports commas, escaped double quotes and newlines within quoted cells. Header names must be unique. Values remain strings. Limit: 2000 data rows.
SIMPLE BY DESIGN
How to use CSV to JSON
- Paste comma-separated data whose first row contains unique, nonempty column names.
- Generate JSON; check any reported quote or row-width errors against the source.
- Inspect the records and download the JSON. Numeric-looking cells remain strings.
Keep commas inside a cell, not in the wrong column.
CSV looks simple until a name contains a comma or a description spans multiple lines. This converter reads quoted fields, doubled quotes and CRLF or LF row endings before mapping data rows to header names. All cell values remain strings, preserving leading zeroes in identifiers. Duplicate or blank header names and inconsistent row lengths produce errors rather than ambiguous records. For large datasets, prefer a dedicated streaming data workflow.
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW
A little more clarity.
Will values such as 00123 become numbers?
No. CSV cells remain strings, so leading zeroes survive conversion. Convert selected fields explicitly in your application if needed.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. This utility processes your input in your browser. URLs you paste are treated as data; the tool does not fetch them. Be careful with clipboard history on shared devices.
